At Bowermans, we believe great design has the power to shape how people connect, work, dine and experience the world around them. That's why we're proud to support the Australian design community and the projects that continue to raise the bar across the built environment.
This year, we were delighted to sponsor the Hospitality Design category at the 2026 Australian Interior Design Awards, celebrating some of the country's most thoughtful and inspiring hospitality interiors.
The standard of work presented across the category was exceptional, highlighting the depth of talent within Australia's design industry. Among the projects recognised were two standout hospitality venues that delivered highly distinctive experiences through their unique design approaches: Omada by Studio Gram and Marlowe by J.AR Office.
Omada by Studio Gram
Located in Adelaide, Omada is a contemporary Greek restaurant designed by Studio Gram that draws on the principles of Epicurean philosophy to create a dining experience grounded in simplicity, permanence and ritual. The project presents a refined and restrained interpretation of hospitality design, demonstrating how thoughtful spatial planning and material selection can create a powerful sense of atmosphere without relying on excess.
Anchored by symmetry and monolithic architectural forms, the interior establishes what Studio Gram describes as a sense of "quiet monumentality". The design carefully balances timelessness with contemporary expression, creating a space that feels both grounded and memorable. Rather than competing with its surrounding heritage architecture, the intervention complements and enhances it, allowing old and new elements to coexist with clarity and purpose.
The project's strength lies in its restraint. Every element has been considered, from the spatial composition and material palette through to the dining experience itself. The result is an environment that encourages guests to slow down, connect and engage with the rituals of hospitality in a meaningful way. Through its calm confidence and enduring character, Omada demonstrates how hospitality interiors can create a lasting impression through thoughtful simplicity.
Marlowe by J.AR Office
In contrast to Omada's restrained approach, Marlowe by Brisbane-based J.AR Office embraces storytelling, nostalgia and theatricality to create a hospitality experience unlike any other. Set within a collection of eight lovingly restored 1930s apartments, the project transforms a historic residential building into a vibrant destination for dining and social connection.
Rather than erasing the building's residential origins, the design celebrates them. The former apartment layout has been thoughtfully reimagined, creating a series of intimate dining spaces that feel highly personal and deeply characterful. Guests move through a collection of unique settings, from communal dining rooms to cosy window nooks, each offering a different experience while contributing to a cohesive narrative throughout the venue.
In their citation, the Australian Interior Design Awards jury praised Marlowe for its innovative response to a highly specific brief and its ability to create a personalised dining experience. The jury noted that the spirit of everyday family life remains evident throughout the project, resulting in a series of spaces that feel warm, familiar and engaging.
The design confidently juxtaposes contemporary furniture and lighting with nostalgic styling, creating interiors that are both bold and inviting. While individual pieces are carefully selected to avoid overwhelming the heritage setting, the overall environment feels energetic and full of personality. The jury also recognised the strong collaborative relationship between client and designer, with Marlowe representing the fourth project completed together—a level of trust clearly reflected in the richness and confidence of the final outcome.
As a supplier of commercial furniture solutions across workplace, education, hospitality and public environments, Bowermans understands the impact great design has on the way people experience a space. The Australian Interior Design Awards provide an important platform for recognising the projects and practitioners driving the industry forward and setting new benchmarks for innovation and excellence.
We would like to congratulate Studio Gram, J.AR Office and every designer, architect and client recognised throughout this year's program. The creativity, craftsmanship and strategic thinking on display are a testament to the strength of Australia's design community and its continued influence on the way we live, work and gather.
We're proud to support initiatives that celebrate exceptional design and the standard showcased at the 2026 Australian Interior Design Awards reinforces what many of us already know: Australian design continues to thrive, evolve and inspire.
