of reliability, trust and responsive workplace solutions
In its eightieth year of shaping high-quality commercial spaces, Bowermans reflects on what it takes to maintain an enduring reputation. The secret ingredients? Embedded expertise, a collaborative network and, importantly, a durable offering that responds to evolving markets.
Bowerman’s beginnings highlight the essence of the mantra ‘from little things big things grow’. In 1946, Bowermans was a small store selling second-hand furniture. Since then, it has become a leading, go-to furniture supplier. As part of a broader design-led collective, Bowermans’ addition allowed the group to specify a holistic office solution, covering workstations and boardrooms in addition to polished front-of-house zones.
A foundation built on local partnerships
The powerhouse behind Bowermans’ reputation is its extensive network of long-standing manufacturers. While Bowermans has supported Australian suppliers for decades, this mutually beneficial network has enabled Bowermans to provide accessible pricing, products with longevity and deliver to tight timelines. These established relationships have also led an expanded client base, now including larger commercial and government projects.
Bowermans’ people: the expertise behind the offering
From presenting products, to developing furnishing strategies and tracking the local and international design landscapes, Bowermans’ team houses a wealth of knowledge. Long-standing team members have established the service excellence ingrained into Bowermans’ DNA, while specialists have built capabilities across hospitality and highly-designed architectural projects that require tailored specification and customisation. As Head of Commercial, Gavin Williams, explains, “There is a lot of trust placed in our consultants to realise a designer’s vision. It does require a hands-on, dedicated approach to ensure strong collaborations with designers and clients.”
Adapting with market shifts, now and into the future
In workplaces, over the decades, barriers came down, corner offices coalesced with open-plan settings and versatile, home-like environments became key to employee comfort. Keeping ahead of the game, as the hospitality and commercial sectors became increasingly ambitious, Bowermans diversified its design-led offering. “The hospitality landscape has become more elevated. People also want a workplace to be multiple things: a hotel, home, flexible collaboration environment. Furniture and fittings are part of that elevation,” Williams says. While maintaining a strong cohort of Australian manufacturers, Bowermans’ has responded to this call for bold design by introducing European brands into the mix, balancing Bowermans’ renowned durability with design accents.
While Bowermans retains workplace furnishings at its core, an understanding of health, public sector and high-end hospitality environments sees it a future-ready brand equipped to cater to any setting, project size or stage.
With people and product at the heart of Bowermans’ longstanding success, its evolution has all the hallmarks of an enduring brand: reliable service, specialised expertise, durable products, and the curiosity required to exceed the needs and expectations of an increasingly design-savvy community.
